Life in Japan

As summer emerges, adorning everything with vibrant green shades, it is now the moment to bid Japan farewell – enjoyable moments always pass swiftly.

During this gap year, we discovered that our living experience in Japan was unlike anything we had experienced before. The notable difference was the increased amount of time we spent together as a family within the confines of our home. This was primarily because we chose not to enroll our children in school due to the language barrier. As a result of this extended family time, I had the opportunity to compile a collection of photographs depicting our everyday life. Additionally, the captivating culture of Kyoto filled our stay with excitement and left a lasting impression on us. READ MORE

Travel in Japan

As we are wrapping up our gap year, the limited opportunities for travel have made us miss so many captivating experiences throughout this remarkable year. The unforgettable moments we have encountered will continue to resonate within us for days to come. Regardless of our location, it is the stories and experiences that we cherish the most. As our final destination, Japan has been equally warm-hearted. Every weekend, we would ride our bikes to the nearby Kenteitsui line station and board a train bound for Kyoto. In this vibrant city, people from different counties, with diverse culture background, could all find a place to appreciate and admire. Furthermore, our journeys from there allowed us to explore numerous other destinations. Whether near or far, each of these places has left us with enchanting memories. READ MORE

Cherry Blossoms in Kyoto

It’s hard to believe that we’ve already spent almost three months in Kyoto – the time has passed by as quickly and enchantingly as the cherry blossoms. Cherry blossom trees aren’t just beautiful flowers that bloom for a brief period each year; they hold a significant cultural and historical importance in Japan. From the traditional Hanami parties held annually by Japanese emperors to the countless poems and pictures inspired by their ephemeral beauty, cherry blossoms (or Sakura) are intertwined with Japan’s identity.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have Kyoto as our temporary home while in Japan. This charmingly traditional city boasts countless stunning sightseeing spots that surpass our wildest expectations. Even to Japanese natives, Kyoto holds a special place in their hearts, like Disneyland – a world of its own that never fails to surprise.

When cherry blossom and Kyoto meet together, it is not just about the cascading shades of pink and white, momentarily transforming the traditional and lively street. It’s also about the sense of awe and enchantment that one experiences while standing beneath the blossoming trees. READ MORE

Taiwan – Part II

Under the cherry blossom tree was the most tempting thing we dreamed of when we were still in Taiwan, wondering about life in Japan. When the dream became a reality, we started reminiscing about our life in Taiwan, which will always have a special place in our hearts.

The rest of our time in Taiwan was filled with adventures, from the freezing trip to Alishan during Spring Festival to riding a paraglider in Taitung, hiking in Taroko with a wild monkey jumping up and down, and enjoying an amazing train ride right beside the ocean. It’s difficult to capture all of these experiences in one journal or choose a favorite, as they are all so unique and special. READ MORE

Okinawa

The trip to Okinawa was like a treasure we found while strolling on the beach, full of tranquility and surprises. Even though we will move to Japan soon, we chose to visit Okinawa from Taiwan since it is much closer to Taiwan rather than where we will live in Japan. Just open to visitors, less popular season and the most outstanding remarkable ocean all made this trip unique for all of us. READ MORE
